    Default New DE

A change in the practice squad. Out is DE Doug Worthington. In is DE Al Woods, who was a No. 4 pick by New Orleans in the 2010 draft. He was projected as a 2nd-3rd round pick, and was considered to have a big upside throughout the pre-draft process. Woods is 6-4, 309, and is better vs the run than as a pass rusher.

    Thanks for those posts, mate!

The guy didn't slip too far against projection. I wonder what made the organisation pick him instead of Worthington...?

this is very surprising as the Saints traded up 7 spots in the 4th round to draft Al Woods.

Woods was one of my "hope the Steelers pick him" draftees.

It's a shame that they can't keep Woods and Worthington, both from good football programs and young.

Are either Eugene Bright or Kyle Jolly that much more "valuable?"

I'm just concerned why the saints booted him.

Yeah I wonder too? Could be a nice pick up for us. Nothing to lose either way.

Just remember we dumped James Harrison several times, before he stuck.

Not that Woods is "Silverback" but the process is not flaw-free.

Still want Worthington back. If he's not picked up by Cleveland or Cincy, because of the OSU link, I'll bet he's living locally waiting for a B&G callback.

I haven't seen Sunny Harris' name show up on another PS or roster. Anyone know if he was signed?

Negatives: Generally keeps his pads down, but there are times where he tends to go upright when his initial move does not work, resulting in him losing leverage on the play … Has had concentration lapses and needs to show a better overall awareness for the play … While he is adequate as a pass rusher, he needs to develop another move when redirecting inside (blockers can get into his chest, as he leaves himself exposed, at times) … Sometimes tries to overpower his man on each play, taking him out of the action as he hesitates some to redirect … Must learn when to give up on the battle and redirect to make the play (gets so caught up in one-on-one confrontations, he forgets to go after the ballcarrier at times) … Good wrap-up tackler,

but despite his strength it is rare to see him punish or explode into ballcarriers.

Compares To: ROCKY BERNARD, New York Giants -- Like Bernard, Woods was a late bloomer in college. He has great athleticism, but similar to Bernard and former teammate, Tyoka Jackson, his motor runs hot and cold.

He can dominate at times, but more often than not, he will get caught up in one-on-one battles and forget to play off blocks to make the play.

He is a decent rotation type, but if a team is looking for immediate contributions, they are best to look elsewhere.
The Saint's probably weren't sucessful in breaking his bad habits and felt his was not worth all the trouble.

Despite my "approval" of the acquisition, we should remember that 15 teams--which had worse records than the Steelers--passed on him, allowing our claim to stick.
