Default Tyler Yates chooses free agency....YES!!!!

Now if we could just get Bautista outta here! Freaking blows my mind a pitcher the quality of Tyler Yates made 1.3 million dollars for this past season.

Right-hander Tyler Yates chooses free agency, leaves Pittsburgh Pirates
By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS (CP) 1 day ago

PITTSBURGH Right-handed reliever Tyler Yates has chosen to become a free agent after the Pittsburgh Pirates requested outright waivers on him.

Yates had Tommy John surgery in July to replace a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow for the second time in his career. He is not expected to pitch again until the middle of next season. Yates also had the ligament repaired in 2002 and needed major shoulder surgery in 2005.

The Pirates apparently planned to offer Yates a minor-league contract, but he preferred to seek work in another organization. Yates made US$1.3 million this season.

Yates, 32, didn't pitch again after being placed on the disabled list May 15 with a 7.50 ERA. He was 6-3 with a 4.66 ERA in 72 games with Pittsburgh in 2008.

Don't be surprised if the Pirates make an offer for a minor league deal. He's not going to get a major league deal anywhere, especially since he's out the next few months, but I could see quite a few teams interested in having him in the minors and not taking up a 40 man spot.

We did, although he'll probably stay with the organization. I think he may have accepted the assignment to Indy.

Todd Redmond who isn't completely awful, although he isn't good or anything either. Maybe a 5th starter type.

As much as I don't and didn't think Redmond would ammount to anything special except maybe a mediocre bullpen arm down the line and below average SP (you know AAAA type of guy), he had mroe upside than Tyler Yates. This wasn't the best talent evaluation move but after reading the one recent article from Huntington about how they were using the former management's scouting information and talent evaluations, this could've been more based on what Littlefield and Creech saw in Redmond than Huntington at that time

Sure they might bring him back on a MiL contract. It will be a case if he wants to stay in the organization. I doubt any team will give him a ML contract.

There are some crazy teams out there.

But yea...I think MiL contract is what he's likely looking at. I still hope we dont bring him back.

I have news for you. There isn't some vast storehouse of pitching talent out there brimming with guys better than Tyler Yates. Yates, when healthy is an average major league reliever.

There's better than Tyler Yates out there. Tyler Yates had bad ERA numbers and lacked control, no matter what season he pitched. He had a desired fastball/velocity that Huntington craves but if they can't harness that control, they aren't of much use. Tyler Yates was that guy. Had the FB couldn't figure out the control and now with thast injury, might hurt is velocity, you're going to see a guy nibbling even more which should produce even worse BB/9 numbers.

I understand what Huntington was trying to do with bringing in Yates. Adding guys with some fastball heat to the BP and hoping they could help out that players control problems. Yates' control never really improved and they have to see this injury as something that won't help his control issues out
