PITTSBURGH--The University of Pittsburgh released its entire 31-game 2010-11 men's basketball schedule on Friday. Game times and additional national and ESPN Regional/Big East Network television games will be announced at a later date.

Combining Pitt's Big East and non-conference schedules, the Panthers will play 21 games against teams which advanced to postseason play in 2009-10 and 13 contests against schools which advanced to the 2010 NCAA Tournament.

During its 18-game conference schedule, Pitt will face each of the 15 league opponents at least one time. Additionally, Pitt will play three of those schools two times apiece (South Florida, Villanova and West Virginia). Pitt will play nine home games and nine away contests during league regular season competition. Home opponents at the Petersen Events Center will include Cincinnati (Feb. 5), Connecticut (Dec. 27), Marquette (Jan. 8), Notre Dame (Jan. 24), Seton Hall (Jan. 15), South Florida (Feb. 16), Syracuse (Jan. 17), Villanova (March 5) and West Virginia (Feb. 24). The Panthers' 2010-11 road opponents include DePaul (Jan. 22), Georgetown (Jan. 12), Louisville (Feb. 27), Providence (Jan. 4), Rutgers (Jan. 29), St. John's (Feb. 19), South Florida (March 2), Villanova (Feb. 12) and West Virginia (Feb. 7).

Currently, the schedule includes 16 national television appearances. Pitt is the only Big East school to appear on CBS two times during the year and it will participate in its fourth all-time ESPN College Game Day when it travels to Villanova for a Saturday, Feb. 12 game. Pitt ties for the Big East lead in most ESPN College Game Day appearances with four. In addition, Pitt will appear on ESPN's Big Monday coverage a league-leading four times during the year.

Highlighting the 2010-11 non-conference schedule are two contests in the 2K Sports Classic benefiting Coaches vs. Cancer at New York's Madison Square Garden. In the first game, Pitt will face Maryland on Nov. 18 and depending on a win or loss, either Texas or Illinois on Nov. 19. Both of those contests will be nationally televised on ESPN2. For ticket information on the two Coaches vs. Cancer games in New York, please contact the University of Pittsburgh Ticket Office at (800) 643-PITT or (412) 648-PITT. Tickets are available to Panther Club members and season ticketholders immediately.

Pitt will also meet Tennessee in the DIRECTV SEC/Big East Invitational at Pittsburgh's brand new CONSOL Energy Center on Saturday, Dec. 11. That contest will also be televised on ESPN. Pitt season ticketholders will have first priority to purchase tickets on Monday, Oct. 4. All Pitt season ticketholders will receive an e-mail notification regarding the purchase of tickets. Tickets for the SEC/Big East Invitational will then go on sale to the general public on Monday, Oct. 11 at the Dick's Sporting Goods Box Office at CONSOL Energy Center and through Ticketmaster.

Pitt will play nine non-conference home games and opens its regular season at the Petersen Events Center against 2010 NIT participant Rhode Island on Nov. 8. The Rhode Island contest, along with Illinois-Chicago (Nov. 10), are both scheduled as part of a four-game Coaches vs. Cancer Classic slate. Pitt will also host North Florida (Nov. 13), Robert Morris (Nov. 23), Penn (Nov. 27), Rider (Dec. 4), Delaware State (Dec. 8), Maryland Eastern Shore (Dec. 18) and American (Dec. 22).

Pitt will also play Duquesne on Wednesday, Dec. 1 at the brand new CONSOL Energy Center. That contest will mark the first-ever basketball game played at the arena. It also marks the second consecutive year that Pitt and Duquesne will meet on a neutral site as the two schools played the final basketball game at Mellon Arena last year which resulted in a 67-58 double overtime Panthers victory. Pitt and Duquesne season ticketholders will have the opportunity to purchase tickets beginning on Tuesday, Oct. 12. Pitt season ticketholders will receive an e-mail notification regarding the purchase of tickets. Tickets will then go on sale to the general public on Monday, Oct. 18 at the Dick's Sporting Goods Box Office at CONSOL Energy Center and through Ticketmaster.

According to ESPN's Joe Lunardi, Pitt ranks third nationally in average ratings percentage index over the last eight seasons (2002-10). Pitt averages a 13.1 ranking in RPI, trailing only No. 1 Duke (5.9) and No. 2 Kansas (9.6). In each of the last five years, Pitt has ranked among the nation's top-20 programs in RPI. The RPI takes into account several factors including winning percentage, strength of schedule and opponents' average winning percentage. It is the NCAA's No. 1 factor in determining seeding for the NCAA Tournament. Pitt has also ranked among the nation's top-10 in strength of schedule in three of the last four seasons.

The Big East Championship is scheduled for March 8-12 at Madison Square Garden and the NCAA Tournament First and Second Rounds begin March 17-20.

Additionally, Pitt will begin its schedule with exhibition games against both Northwood Univ., Fla. (Oct. 31) and NCAA Division II national finalist Indiana, Pa. (Nov. 4).

Pitt will host its annual Basketball Fan Fest and Maggie Dixon Heart Health Fair on Saturday, Sept. 25 from 1-3 p.m. at the Petersen Events Center. Basketball Fan Fest is free and open to the public. It will feature interactive games with the Pitt men's and women's basketball teams along with a Heart Fair.

Pitt has also scheduled a Blue-Gold Scrimmage on Friday, Oct. 22 at 7 p.m. at the Petersen Events Center. The Blue-Gold Scrimmage will offer fans their first glimpse of the 2010-11 Pitt men's basketball team.

For ticket information or to renew season tickets, please contact the University of Pittsburgh Ticket Office at (800) 643-PITT or (412) 648-PITT or visit www.pittsburghpanthers.com.

Pitt returns four of five starters, seven of its top eight scorers, 86 percent of its scoring and 91 percent of its rebounding from a 2009-10 team that concluded its season with a 25-9 overall record, a second consecutive second place finish in the Big East Conference, the school's ninth consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance and a No. 3 seed upon entering the tourney.
