    Default The Inner Geek

There are times when being a Sci Fi/Horror/Fantasy fan has led me to great frustration, so I thought I'd see if any of you had these kinds of moments and if so, what?

To get the thread moving, for example, this evening I was considering the original version of Romero's "Dawn of the Dead" and visiting a few zombie web sites. Some of these postulated that WGON (the fictitious TV station at the start of the film) broadcasts from Philadelphia and some suggest Harrisburg as the source of transmission.

    Cobblers!

It's quite clearly scrolling across the bottom of one of the output monitors that one of the local emergency shelters is in McKees Rocks - that's a heck of a journey through zombie-infested PA!

I'm a geek, this is how I spend my Friday evenings. I'm lucky Mrs WM is so understanding and she puts up with my fuming at these colossal errors...
'I want rustlers, cut throats, murderers, bounty hunters, desperados, mugs, pugs, thugs, nitwits, halfwits, dimwits, vipers, snipers, con men, Indian agents, Mexican bandits, muggers, buggerers, bushwhackers, hornswogglers, horse thieves, bull dykes, train robbers, bank robbers, ***-kickers, ****-kickers and Methodists.'

...and of course if anyone every wants and I can get freed... I can walk around Monroeville mall and answer questions from Dawn of the dead. I remember and skated on the ice rink and remember a lot of the places in the mall and such. The Pens back in the 70's used that ice skating rink for practice. Growing up we always entered the mall through the back end by the annex down the hill which is pretty prominent in the movie where the big rigs and such are stationed...

Still saddens me that they got rid of the big fountain down on the Horne's/Lazarus/Macy's end. Used to be awesome walking in side end entrance on the 2nd level and you could see the fountain rise all the ways up towards to the sky lights

When I went to Monroeville, my wife was puzzled by my standing outside JC Penney's and just saying "Penney's... I'm outside Penney's... I wonder where the keys are!"

    She doesn't watch many films.

I'm a "Shaun of the Dead" fan! ...I still have plenty of old albums to throw at the Zombies!

...and whose idea was it to go to "the Winchester"?

Not a horror fan at all. I like Evil Dead and Shawn of the Dead, that's about it. I have a thread somewhere about vintage scifi. I need some expertise there.

Evil Dead II is the greatest horror/spoof ever.

    EVER!!!

Shawn of the Dead was very nicely done though.

Army of Darkness is good, but EDII is a classic.

    But we're splitting hairs here.

We both probably agree that Evil Dead I sucked.

Sweet, how can you say ED 2 is a classic and 1 sucked when a good majority of 2 was a refresher on 1??That always ****ed me off.It was like Raimi wanted an easy out.

Well it was kind of a redo. The first one seemed like it was trying to be for real... not a spoof. I like the ridiculousness of II and AOD. Plus the fact it was all make-up and stop motion. That makes it pretty special because you would be hard pressed to find any of that kind of thing today, even a little bit. I had never really even heard of these movies until I went to the Art Institute and my roomate was in industrial design where one of his teachers worked on AOD. They had a VHS going around school before it came out but didn't have all of the endings. Like I said not a big fan of the genre but will probably see Drag Me To Hell sometime soon.

1 was a dry run. 2 is the perfection. 3 is a decent rehash.

Of the trilogy, I'll watch 2 any day of the week.
