Default No new QB to be signed...

    Steelers won't sign another quarterback
    Tuesday, September 21, 2010
    By Ed Bouchette, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

The Steelers have worked out two young quarterbacks but do not plan to sign one, either to their 53-man roster or their practice squad this week, even though Dennis Dixon will have surgery on his injured left knee Wednesday.

Former WVU quarterback Jarrett Brown is here today, and they also worked out Levi Brown, most recently with the Buffalo Bills.

Mike Tomlin said they have no plans to sign a third quarterback, and another source said they will not sign one to the practice squad either.

That news means the Steelers are confident that Bryon Leftwich's left knee is healthy enough for them to go with him and Charlie Batch as their only two quarterbacks vs. the Buccaneers in Tampa Sunday. Leftwich sprained the MCL in his left knee Sept. 2 and returned on a limited basis to practice last week.

Tomlin said he will see how things develop in practices this week before he selects his starting quarterback for Sunday.

Dixon has a torn lateral meniscus. Tomlin said the Steelers will wait to see the results of the surgery before they make any decision on Dixon, who could be a candidate for injured reserve.

Tomlin also announced that both nose tackle Casey Hampton (hamstring) and offensive tackle Max Starks (ankle) are doing well and likely to return to play after missing last Sunday's game in Tennessee.

And I'm learning to juggle using sticks of dynamite. Man, these guys have some acorns. I sure hope they're making the right decision. What really scares me though, is what if Ben were to get hurt?

I don't think this is that big a deal. We're playing a 2 week schedule. Get through this week with Lefty not getting hurt then we're good to go for Balt. After that Ben's back, Dixon will be close to being back and we're at the beginning all over with the debate over who stay as backups to Ben.

What I don't understand is that Arians said he didn't create any running plays for Dixon because of the QB shortage and that he didn't want to un-necessarily put him in harms way by running him. Yet after Dixon went down, the ONLY back-up to Charlie Batch was Randle El...AND HE WAS STILL RETURNING PUNTS! Am I the only one who was concernced on Sunday???

According to this a new name is thrown into the work-out list. Posted about 2 hours ago.

Steelers still keeping QB options open — 3:04 p.m.

The Pittsburgh Steelers worked out three free agent quarterbacks on Tuesday, a source with the knowledge of the situation confirmed.

The three who worked out were Levi Brown, Jarrett Brown, and John David Booty.

Levi Brown, who was selected in the seventh-round of the 2010 NFL Draft, also worked out for the New York Giants last week.

Jarrett Brown, who signed with the San Francisco 49ers as an undrafted free agent in April, was recently waived by the 49ers. He also worked out for the Giants last week.

Booty was originally selected in the fifth-round of the 2008 NFL Draft by the Minnesota Vikings. He’s spent time with the Tennessee Titans and Washington Redskins over the past 12 months.

Levi Brown has potential, I wouldn't mind the Steelers signing him to the PS at the very least. Don't see how he could be much worse than Dixon.

I live in a Skins market area and knew ARE sucked last year as their returner, unless he was saving himself cause he knew he wouldn't be there.

I say let them young rookie returners have the job, they doing great on kickoffs.

ARE has yet to impress me with anything awesome on the field as of 2 games. Understand the hometown discount.
