    Default One That Got Away...

I remember suggesting that the Steelers draft LeGarette Blount with one of their three 5th round picks. (That's where I had hinm in nmy personal "mock".)

I then suggested that he should be a priority FA signing for us, which he became for Tennessee.

I thought he would be the perfect big man and short yardage RB.

I guess it's not to be!!

While I really do like LeGarret, and think he'll overcome his stigma to be a decent back... I doubt he would have made the squad this season if we had picked him... We have a fairly healthy stable of backs, and I don't think he would have made the squad with us... But that's just me.

I agree. Mendy and Redman are getting the job done well enough.

No reason to bring up "the one that got away."

We have a great RB corp in my opinion... It's just too tough to say how someone would'a gone... Maybe? Yea... But we already had guys returning that knew the system.... Like I said, I do like the guy... But I still doubt he would'a made the squad with what we already had... I dunno...

I think Blount had a stigma about him ever since that nationally televised college game and the fight he initiated.

    But, he could run.

He got cut from Tennessee, ironically, when the Titans grabbed Patrick Bailey when the Steelers cut him and after Blount got into a fist fight with a defender in practice.

    Then Tampa grabbed him.

We'll never know, but before this exchange and when the Steelers were shaping their final roster, I argued that we should keep Dwyer over Mewelde. I would have argued keeping Blount over MM, too, if LB had been in the Steelers camp.

You never can have enough depth at RB (or at any other position).

Given that situation, I would also... It's still too tough to look "back", though... At least for me...

Well, I suspect that I am older than you and have been a (Pittsburgh) sports fan for all of my (now Medicare) life.

But, what you're describing is the essence of the phrase "hot stove." (Picture people sitting around a warm stove and discussing their favorite team or sport). It used to apply only to the winter when the baseball season had ended and people looked forward to spring and exhibition baseball. Not any longer with the massive expansion and marketing of all major sports, professional and otherwise.

It's all "what ifs", because you can "go back" and replay events or trades, drafts, etc. etc.

The world never will change will because of what we discuss, or all of the weird superstitions we go through on game day--my father never would change his socks if the Pirates were on a winning streak--but we all do it or have them.

(In the old days--and like the past 18 years--there were so few winning streaks that we didn't have any family hygiene fears about dad's habits.)

But, we are playing "hot stove" now, with all of our posts, boasts, threats, worries, cheers, etc. and it's great fun and we enjoy it or we wouldn't do it.

    Long may it reign!!

Same thing you, same thing me, DC. I wanted Legarrette Blount really bad...I also wanted Jahvid Best and the kid from Stanford....I want them all on the Steelers! lol

All kidding aside, I noticed Tomlin gave Blount a real warm and hearty handshake after the game...leads me to speculate at some point the Steelers and or Tomlin had talked to the young man and considered him, perhaps...I say this without an ounce of proof, just doing what fans do, reading into things too much.

Couldnt agree more... I think another bruiser like Blount would be a better option than Moore at this point!!! Dude plays physical, Moore's role is mute now that he is not playing on ST's. Blount looked better than any RB against our D thus far...and that speaks volumes considering we shut down Turner and Johnson. He ran tough (on his few totes), but fortunately for us, we rang up the scoreboard and they had to get away from him!

Still think we should've given the dude a shot!
