Screw the budget, sign two of the following: Pitchers Cliff Lee, Brandon Webb, Joe Blanton or Outfielders Jayson Werth or Carl Crawford.

Starting to wonder if that statement could be used for the pirates ever winning a championship again.

Maybe but I see the Pirate future as bright as it has been in years.

    because...

    A) BN would never pony up the $$
    B) those in question would never sign with the PBC
    C) Both A and B
    D) Baseball wouldn't allow the PBC to become significant
    E) Ben Braun is a doochebag
    F) Other

So, let BN go in hock instead of creaming whatever revenue he can manage.

Besides, you guys saw it, "Neal" asked me for some names and I gave him five from which to pick two.

    I expect that cinches that.

Anything else you need me to take on?

(BTW. JR doesn't last past 3 PM tomorrow.)

You know Bill, I've never expected the Pirates to be a player in the free agent market for the top players, but I will expect them to spend money on the core players that have been identified. Of the 4 everyday players, I expect them to try and lock up McCutchen, and 2 of Walker, Tabata, and Alvarez. Since those 3 are rookies and have yet to prove they're for real, I expect that to come at a later date. I personally think Alvarez will be here till free agency, because that's just how Boras operates. He'll wind up in Boston or New York or a another big market if he reaches close to his ceiling.

Which means we have about four years, along with prayers that Tallion and Allie (??), learn to pitch in the majors by then, along with Heredia--unless the Bucs buy some pitching talent.

It would be nice to get lucky with Ohlendorf, Morton, or one of the other SP we acquired in our "trades." or Locke and/or Owens, not to mention Moskos..

Where Cutch, Walker, Tabata, and Alvarez fit--vis a vis our pitching--is winning a few games with their bats so that ptichers don't feel like they are goign to lose everytime they go to the mound.

That has to be psychologically damaging.

Of course, if my aunt had balls......

No....5 years for McCutchen and 6 for Tabata, Walker and Alvarez.
