    Default Jeff Clement

Does anyone think that Jeff Clement can make the team as our starting 1B in the upcoming season? I'd like to see him have a good spring and solidify the 1B spot so that we can keep Jones in the OF and thus allowing us to not have to go find another OF until Tabata is ready. That also gives us another potential trade chip if Clement does well at 1B and Jones continues to excel in the OF and Tabata continues to develop...there wont be spots for all of them obviously. It would be nice to see...

Do you not think him capable of holding the position down himself?

Clement has not hit with consistancy yet.

For sure. The question is whether he'll be able to and thus hold down the first base bag.

Not at the beginning of the season. Remember he just started playing 1st after the trade. I would think a platoon would be in order unless he hits like King Kong in ST.

I can unfortunately see a platoon with Pearce as well. Clement entered the organization and hit well and then hit a wall quickly and did nothing. I mentioned during the trade that I loved Clement the year he was drafted, so i try to hold back my bias and what not. he has the ability and skill to be good, I don't know if the injuries have taken their toll on him and hurt is consistency though.

One thing is for sure... until he proves other wise, Garrett Jones is going to be in the lineup. So a spot has to be open at RF or 1B. When and if Tabata comes up, Jones is going to 1B provided he had proven that last season wasn't a fluke.

Wasn't there some mention that his oblique was hurt before he let anyone know about it? And that may have caused his hitting to spiral into the toilet.

I hope that there is no platoon of Pearce. I just don't think he can hit well enough to play in the bigs.

I was hoping Clement could be our 1B in 2010 but I'm not so sure after his horrible month of August.

I was/am hoping the same thing. Last year in total he hit .274, 21 HR, and 90 RBI...with a solid .850 OPS. And this is all after he had a bad August. We'll have to see how he performs in spring training obviously...but I hope its well enough to lock down the 1B job.
