    Default Malkin out "couple weeks"

Just saw this on the Post Gazette site and hadn't heard anything about it previously.

Penguins center Evgeni Malkin will miss "a couple weeks" because of a strained right shoulder, coach Dan Bylsma announced after practice today at Mellon Arena.

Malkin is tied with Sidney Crosby for the team scoring lead with 14 points. Last season, he won the NHL regular-season and playoff scoring titles and was the playoff MVP as he helped the Penguins win the Stanley Cup.

Bylsma said Malkin has been playing despite the shoulder injury but the decision was made to pull him out of the lineup as a precaution so he can return at full strength.

Time for Crosby to go nuts in his absence.

Man... they are a droppin like flies right now. At least it's happening earlier into the season, but yeah, missing Malkin, Gonchar, Talbot, Kennedy is out.

Any word on who's getting called up? 3rd line will likely take the 2nd line's place which means roles to be filled on a "new" 3rd line

A season can be recovered from a dent early on. Facing these kinds of hurdles in the middle/late season can be a killer.

Let's hope it all comes back together without too much persistent grief.

Rob Rossi reports that likely callups are Ryan Bayda, Chris Connor, and Wyatt Smith. All of the older guys from the team.

Just what we didn't need to have happen. I had been asking what was up with Malkin and its clear now that he has been injured. This isn't good. I dont know how devastating it will be, but this isn't good for a team that was really clicking when the season started. Hopefully, Malkin can get healthy and come back and be the same ol' dominant Geno...not great news though.

Malkin to Miss 2-3 Weeks with Shoulder Strain
Thursday, 10.29.2009 / 12:56 PM / Features By Jason Seidling Head coach Dan Bylsma announced Thursday that forward Evgeni Malkin will miss 2-3 weeks with a shoulder strain. It is not the same shoulder that kept Malkin out of the lineup during the beginning of the 2006-07 season and the team is being cautious.

"Geno is going to be out of the lineup for a couple of weeks," Bylsma said. "He strained his shoulder about 10 days or so ago. I don’t know the exact day. It is precautionary for the player. We are worried about the safety of the shoulder. A couple weeks of rest and rehab will get that thing healthy so he can get back onto the ice.

Befitting a player who had played 254 consecutive regular-season games through Wednesday's action, Malkin was naturally disappointed by the news.

"Obviously he has played with it and could gut it out, which is what Geno would be apt to do," Bylsma said. "At this time of the year the concern is the player and this is a precautionary measure."

Although disappointed, Malkin will accompany the Penguins on their trip to Columbus.

[high-light]"I can play good, but it’s the early season," Malkin said about the injury. "I feel good. It’s not a big problem, and I’m fine. I’ll be watching and supporting the team on the trip. It’ll be fine."

"It’s okay. It’s not the pain. It feels good. It’s because it doesn’t feel comfortable now."[/high-light]

None of them are worth a ****, either. Mainly minor league fodder that can come up and take a roster spot without hurting the team but they add nothing to it either

****! I wonder how long he's been playing through it? It also makes me wonder why they hadn't pulled him out before? Unless it just got a lot worse after last night. He hasn't looked quite right for a few games now. Well, at least it's only a "couple of weeks".

Rob Rossi changed his mind a bit and said they're going to call up Chris Connor and Mark Letestu.

I guess they know best, but I'd rather see Caputi and Tangredi (if the latter is healthy).

I am tired of short, fast guys who can't score.

    That's my feeling as well.

We're not going to replace Malkin, but let's do a little bit better than replacing last years points leader with career minor league, emergency 4th line call up type of guys.

Thsi is a nice time to give Caputi or Tangradi some NHL ice time
