    Default Roster moves

The Pirates removed Justin Thomas, Steven Jackson, Jeff Clement, Sean Gallagher and Brandon Moss from the 40 MR and outrighted them to AAA.

They also signed Wil Ledezma to a contract which avoids arbitration.

Ohlendorf, Ascanio and Pearce come off the 60 day DL.

There are now 38 players on the 40 MR.

Also......Chan Ho was removed from the 40 MR because he is a FA.

A bunch of those guys will probably be back at some point. Thomas and Clement seem likely to clear waivers and will have to take the outright assignment since it's their first time. Moss, Jackson, and Gallagher probably clear as well, but will have the option to become minor league free agents.

Expect more moves soon as that's not nearly enough spots just for the Rule 5 eligible players.

They could lose them all and it wouldn't matter what so ever. Moss will leave as a FA for sure.

Most defionitely. I expect more spots to open up for NH to get going, although, I wouldn't use "spots" plural for the Rule V under NH

I would kind of like to see them be able to hang on to Gallagher. Other than that, whatever

I like the Ledezma signing. A lefty with a good arm is worth holding on to.

As far as the rest of them, Clement is the only one I would be interested in keeping.

I think the fact that it says they've been outrighted means they've already cleared waivers, but I'm not entirely sure. If that's the case Clement would definitely stay with the organization (unless someone took him in the Rule 5). I was wrong on Thomas, as the Pirates actually outrighted him last year.

Jen Langosch's article clears things up a bit. Moss, Thomas, and Jackson can (and almost definitely will) declare for minor league free agency right now. Clement is staying since this is his first outright. Gallagher can't declare free agency until Saturday and the team plans to make him an offer to stay around before then.

Clement will be luckly if he is healthy enough to start the season with any team.

Thomas is back on a minor league deal. I'm not overly optimistic about him or anything, but bringing him back was probably a good idea.

Another note: Initial reports were wrong and Gallagher isn't a minor league free agent. He doesn't have enough minor league service time and this is his first outright. Only Moss and Jackson aren't under contract for 2011.

I'm glad they can keep Gallagher. Don't care either way on Moss, hopefully jackson won't be back unless he's selling peanuts in the stands.
