    Default Another Frankie Faux Pas?

I just read the transcript of FC's latest chat. I see where he is planning to celebrate our 1971 World Series championship next year. That is commendable, but he is doing it WHEN the Orioles come to town! Boy, talk about rubbing it in their faces!

With 2011 being the 40th anniversary of the Pirates 1971 title, do the
Pirates plan on having events to commemorate the 1971 champions?

Coonelly: Yes, we will be celebrating the 40th anniversary of the 1971
World Series champion Pirates when **the Orioles come into town on June
    20-22**.
It is a great opportunity to allow our fans to celebrate that
team that defeated the Orioles in seven games 40 years ago and to have
our current players interact with great Pirate champions of the past
Living here in Harrisburg, we have a fair amount of O's fans here. I mentioned this to 3 of them and all 3 had a similar 'lack of class/stupid' comment. One suggested they attend in a mass fashion and boo but then he said, that would demonstrate a lack of class on THEIR part.

I wonder how the Pirate org would feel if, when we visited Atlanta in 2012, they had a celebration of Cabrera's infamous hit off of Belinda.

I wonder how the Steelers would feel if, in 2015, and the Cowboys were on the schedule as an away game, they planned a 20 year anniversary of their Super Bowl victory over us.

    C'mon Frank...

I HIGHLY doubt that this was done without the O's knowledge and consent.

It will probably involve throwback unis, as well.

Im looking forward to the throwback uniforms.!!!

Other than that, **** the Orioles. This is the Pittsburgh Pirates celebration of the 340th anniversary. Would it be anymore fair, or show more class if we allowed the Baltimore Orioles to stage this at their Stadium? No. I'm not even sure that I would care if the Braves held a celebration of Sid Bream limping one legged into home plate during a Pirates/Braves game. I punish myself yearly watching that on youtuibe or some Pirates special on FSN

Even further to say "**** the Orioles" Since their fans are whining, we should also hold a celebration for the 31st Anniversary of the 1979 world Series that weekend as well. There. Baltimore can whine and relive both of their World Series failures

I guess I know the ONLY three O's fans who think it would be classless or stupid. Only reason for the posting.

Oh I'm sure there's a hell of a lot more but like anything, if they were hosting a celebration of a world series victory against the team they had beaten I'm sure they would be fine with it.

Really it's 40 years later. Neither team has anyone on it from then, both organizations have completely move on. I wouldn't be upset to see the RedSox or Yankees celebrate their world Series victories over us in some sort of ceremony that we were part of. I think it would be fun in a way. It's still an achievement to even get there. Orioles fans should be celebrating that since they haven't been there since 79 I believe.

Just my take of course. I guess im a little less sympathetic

I think this is pretty common. It seems like these celebrations have been held when the teams play each other in interleague play.

I never thought of myself as one who'd hold a grudge, but I'd be ticked as hell if I was in Atlanta in 2012 and saw that I just paid $50 to watch Sid slide into home ONE MORE ******** TIME!

Can you really get upset about it when you go to the visiting stadium? For some reason I don't think there are going to be a bunch of 50+ year old Baltimore fans who are still upset about a series from 40 years ago in attendance.

I really doubt the Braves would be celebrating the 20th anniversary of a year they didn't win the World Series.

I was just using that as an example of a painful memory. Like if I was in Dallas in 2015 and they had a 20 yr anniversary of the Super Bowl win.

Many O's fans I know won't let me bring up those 70s World Series. I wonder how Palmer and Flanagan, their two announcers feel about them?

    =========

But, overall sentiment here is that Frankie didn't commit a 'faux pas', so I will drop this whole discussion.

Denial of events doesn't mean they didn't happen.

Actually LeeFoo, you make a very good point. I have no issues with reliving the past accomplishments, but yes doing it while Baltimore is here is not the appropriate time.
