    Default The Flower!

Fleury played a good game (even though he only made 15 saves ) but still good game all around. Lets go Pens!

Agreed.... He needs to get his **** together, and as an optimist, I'm hoping this was the start of just that...

Team effort! (Fleury didn't even see a SOG until 6+ minutes into the game). Let's hope they can keep it up.

Well it seems like the low shots against type games are exactly the type he has problems with. ADD and all. I am pulling for him too though. Always liked him but he is just so god**** frustrating to watch some times. We do need him in order to be successful, we are going to need BJ too.

YEAH! Fleury's back. He's played the last 7 since the debacle against Boston, and has gone 6-0-1 in those starts!

People tend to only bag him when he's down. But, this guy is a franchise goalie, it's just sometimes he goes through bad swoons. Considering the NHL season is 7 months long, goalies are going to have some bad swoons in a season.

When Fleury gets bagged on it's because he deserves it. He was playi9ng truly horribly earlier this season and despite the failed attempts I had see out on the interwebs there was no excuses, not when BJ was putting up far superior numbers with the same defense in front of him and same quality of chances.

It's good to see MAF come back on board though. The one thing he can do that we have no answer for is that he can make that save or saves that propels the team. A guy like BJ can't

Regardless of what many would like to believe, BJ is a back-up goalie. MAF is a franchise type goalie and in spite of some periods where he struggles (as ANY athlete is prone to do in his career), his long-term value is pretty darned high.

Most definitely. Actually I would prefer to use the terms "franchise capable" since there are times when MAF looks like a franchise goalie and times when he looks like he should be plahying for the wheeling Nailers

What's important however is that Brent johnson - the backup showed that the team and defense and coaching staff was doing a good job and that Fleury simply needed to play better and the "better" part came from simply needing to concentrate better and make the standard saves that he for some reason was mentally allowing.

That's what is great about Backups. They can help tell you what is wrong with the starter when the starter is struggling or injured etc... Look at ty Conklin a couple years ago. What Conklin showed was the ability to play the puck and help his Defense out. MAF never played the puck until Conklin did. It helped MAF's game tremendously but it also showed that the Defense perhaps wasn't as bad as people thought, there was just an element of goalie play missing that other teams had been getting.

Brent Johnson showed that if you don't allow the soft goals that should be stopped 9 out of 10 times, that you can have a great Save Percentage and low GAA. Johnson was just never going to make those saves that a franchise goalie can make that sometimes are needed because of defensive breakdowns or bad offensive turnovers etc... Now we are seeing MAF make this standard saves and allow in less softies.

most importantly though it takes the heat off of the Defense who despite all of the new faces and pairings developing chemistry, have really played pretty well.

MAF still sucks. He puts together streaks like this all the time, and every time he starts doing well everyone jumps back on his cock and starts sucking away. Franchise goalies don't have the swings MAF has...end of story. When was the last time Martin Brodeur slumped for over a month? MAF has all the potential in the world...But after 7 years in the league, we should no longer be talking about MAF's potential. Stats don't lie MAF's save % is mediocre at best. MAF is not a franchise goalie. When he is on his game, he is unbeatable...when he is off his game, he is an embarassment. Unfortunately, he switches back and forth between those two extremes 2 or 3 times every season.
The only player in the NHL more overpaid than MAF is Jordan Staal

11-0-1 in his last 12 starts, buddy. That's pretty **** good, and his goals against is pretty good. For a goalie, he's doing just fine!

Perhaps you don't understand hockey. Over the last 20 years find me goalies other than Roy and Brodeur that were constantly consistent. Your super high expectations are unrealistic.

You can't argue about how MAF has played lately! ... the whole team for that matter!! But many of us are waiting for the other shoe to fall. Like BGK said, we've seen this before from Fleury. Maybe he's past the brain farts and soft goals? That would be wonderful! Time will tell. But he still doesn't handle the puck well or track it down on shoot ins. For being a first overall draft pick, you'd think he'd be more solid in those areas.

Bottom line... as long as the Pens win, I'm happy.
