    Default Wake up......sit down Gay

maybe they finally will, after getting embarrassed AGAIN last night...read below

    Steelers Team Report
    Yahoo! Sports

    INSIDE SLANT

Pittsburgh’s defense, which looked invincible before New England drilled the Steelers last Sunday night, will get another test when the Oakland Raiders visit Heinz Field on Sunday.

In fact, the Steelers will be re-evaluating their offense and defense after the Patriots scored a 39-26 victory to drop Pittsburgh back into a first-place tie at 6-3 atop the AFC North Division.

“We all lost tonight,” a dejected Mike Tomlin said as he saw his team give up more points than any other since he became the head coach in 2007. “We all did, including myself.”

The Steelers were never in the game against the Patriots, outscored 23-3 entering the fourth quarter before they put up three touchdowns.

“We stunk offensively,” quarterback Ben Roethlisberger said. “We flat-out stunk. And I stunk. It wasn’t fun.”

With injuries piling up, the Steelers have to wonder if 2009 isn’t creeping back up on them. As they did last season, they went 6-2 in the first half and then lost their ninth game. Last season, it was the first of five straight losses that knocked them out of the playoff hunt. They never looked as poorly in a combined effort on offense or defense.

Their game against the Raiders at home last season summed up all that went wrong for the Steelers in 2009. The Steelers fell to 6-6 after losing to Oakland at home, their fourth straight defeat. It was also another fourth-quarter meltdown as they allowed 21 points in the final quarter to lose with nine seconds left on a TD pass.

“I can’t be worried,” safety Ryan Clark said. “You can’t start dredging up things from the past. This is one night and this is one night we need to get better from. It sucks to lose any time.

“Obviously, for our defense, it hurts more because we’re not used to playing this way. We’re not used to giving up yardage the way we did or giving up the scores in that manner. But you have to come back and continue to play. Yeah, we’re (angry). We’re upset. But we just have to come back to work the same that we did when we were winning.”

Tom Brady, who has now won six of seven starts against the Steelers, passed for 350 yards and three touchdowns and the Patriots managed 103 yards rushing against the NFL’s top-rated run defense. The Steelers had limited teams to 75 yards or fewer in each of their first eight games, something never before done in NFL history.

That now is all history as they wonder what they can do to fix it.

“We need to look at it in great detail and make the necessary corrections and hopefully learn from this experience,” Tomlin said.

    NOTES, QUOTES

[HIGH-LIGHT]Lineup Watch: Nickel cornerback William Gay was beaten badly on two touchdown receptions by Patriots rookie tight end Rob Gronkowski and it’s possible he could lose that job to Anthony Madison. Gay started at cornerback last season but lost that job to open this season to Bryant McFadden.[/HIGH-LIGHT]

By The Numbers: 186—Hines Ward’s streak of catching a pass in consecutive games came to an end when he left in the first quarter with a concussion and no receptions. It’s the third-longest streak in NFL history.

    STRATEGY AND PERSONNEL

    Player Notes

    • ILB Lawrence Timmons left the game with a hip pointer. He is the Steelers’ tackles leader and has been their best defensive player through the first half of the season. If he cannot go this week, veteran Larry Foote would replace him.

    • WR Mike Wallace has become the team co-leader with 30 receptions, leads the Steelers with 643 yards and his two TDs against the Patriots gives him seven this season.

    • QB Ben Roethlisberger went through his first five games with just seven sacks but was sacked five times by the Patriots.

    • K Jeff Reed missed a 26-yard field goal, his seventh miss of the season (15 of 22). He had a 10 misses combined in his previous three seasons.

    • TE Heath Miller became only the second at his position in team history to top 3,000 yards receiving. He has 3,024 since they made him their first-round draft pick in 2005.

That first TD was not Gay's fault at all. He had pretty much perfect coverage. I couldn't believe the pass by Brady on that play. That's a play where the safety needs to dislodge the ball or break it up over top. Of course Clark was about 5 steps too late on the play.

The second TD was Gay getting burned, though.

Benching Gay is just a red herring. That will not solve the problems on this defense.

I just have to asume Lewis isn't showing much and for a 3rd round pick that sucks. He picked up a penalty last night for coming back on the field after going out of bounds on a punt, and I remember him getting two stupid personal fouls in a preseason game.

I think you are right. Gay has done some good things too but he has a very heavy work load. It's not going to change tho. You put another young guy and they are going to get blown up the same way. Maybe they should leave Gay there but just make him split time with Madison and that was you ease the guy into it.

We sure need some DB's that can cover tighter and jump on some passes. Maybe in future drafts. Our corners play 10-12 yards off the line.

Thats because of the scheme not the player.

Well the Pats just layed out the blueprint to beat the scheme then, so something needs to change if it not be the players. Granted every team doesn't have a Brady, but at long as Brady and Manning are around we need to do something that will provide success with the sheme.

Palmer and Brady went to the line with plays called to put us in man to man and 1st thing they did was locate Gay.

meant it sarcastically..we couldn't have done what the Browns did even if we tried.... with our bandaged line. Our line wasn't all that before the 2 injuries against the bengals...but they were holding their own....now we could be in for a long season depending on any more injuries and how long it takes for the new players on the line jell.

Anthony Madison? Seriously? Keenan Lewis is THAT bad that we'd have to play Anthony Madison at nickel?

Right now the way Gay has played I would gamble on either of them.
