Default Someone needs to say it...

It's amazing that Ben, in his 7th year (8th?), still waits and waits and waits in the pocket before throwing the ball. I can't think of any other NFL QB that plays like this. Now Ben is an amazing QB and an amazing talent but this **** is getting old. It's simply not a consistent way to play the position. I know Ben has had a lot of success playing like this but against teams that play man up on the WR's, Ben almost always seems to struggle.....Which is exactly what's happened since the Saints game. I'm pretty sure we saw a similar thing happen last year as well.

Arians is not the kind of OC this team needs especially with the way Ben plays. Ben needs to start hitting WR's faster. There needs to be shorter options, dump offs, etc. the things every offense, outside of the Steelers, runs. There's about 3 plays a game that are called like that (short passes to RB's out of the backfield, etc.) why not run more? They almost always seem to work, but yet Arians and/or Ben never goes back to it. It's beyond frustrating and moronic.

I've said this since BA created this boring repetitive offense that it leads to the QB (any QB) holding the ball and throwing picks.

Defensive backs can cheat on our receivers because they don't have to concern themselves about mis-direction or mis-timed plays like screens, draws, delayed roll outs, etc. which would normally keep them looking back to Ben and the line of scrimmage on short pass routes. They can stick to our WR's like glue.

Looking at our game plans the last few weeks...it looks as if BA uses the same plays...just at different times of the games but doesn't seem to GAME PLAN for each different opponent.

Two things absolutely never cease to amaze me about this offense -

    - The total lack of adjustments or change of plays.
    - The fact that Ben never does a 3 step drop and seems to hardly ever do a 5 step drop. Or if he does, he still holds and holds and holds onto the ball.

Guys, next week, watch and see this happen - 1st down, run, 2nd down, 5 wide empty set. This happened at least 4 or 5 times in the 1st half last night. It's been happening in EVERY game since Ben has been back in the lineup.

Now, I don't study game film, but if I noticed that and was fully expecting it last night, I wonder if Belichick was? Hmmmm...

Andy Reid started the Eagles/Redskins game with an 88 yard touchdown pass then followed it up on the next series with a 20 yard pass, then a reverse.

How do you game plan against things like this if you are the Redskins. This is what we are surely missing. An offensive coordinator who can actually call a game and a coach that can see that his offensive coordinator is a complete jackoff.

Tomlin is sinking this ship fast guys. Grab your life vest we are going in.

By the way 14-0 with 10:00 minutes left in the 1st quarter. Two touchdowns, two series. Perfect execution so far. Vick > Roethlisberger

Everyone seems to forget how everyone talked about how great it was to have a mobile QB when Ben was playing early on.

I've been saying this for years, Ben is no longer wanting to be mobile and I don't think it's because he can't be.

I think everyone was saying it was great to have a mobile QB because we saw what was protecting him

Not much has changed except for Ben's lack of mobility.

When receivers aren't getting separation and the OL aren't holding blocks, what should he do? Run with it?

As long as he limits his picks, I'm OK with Ben shedding would-be tacklers long enough to throw it!

I don't know, how about some shorter passes, flares to the RB's, dumpoffs, slants, etc.? It's insane and moronic to run an offense the way the Steelers run their offense and a reason for it is in your post. Again, Ben is a great QB, awesome talent but there is an obvious reason that pretty much no other team runs an offense like the Steelers - it puts WAY too much pressure on a QB and relies on low percentage passes (ie, long developing routes downfield) to be consistently good.

Brady was a machine last night, but was he asked to throw a lot of tough passes? A few, but most more simple dumpoffs and short stuff. This ain't brain surgery.

I think what I'm getting at is Ben's play in the pocket is more or less a direct result of having Arians as an OC. Yeah, Ben would still play like a braindead retard at times, looking and looking and looking downfield but a different, smarter OC could help Ben cutback on that sort of stuff with a different, smarter offensive philosophy. Arian's whole philosophy and braindead playcalling just reinforces Ben's play in the pocket.

Can someone wake me when there is a thread with some original content.

I swear each thread says the same things over and over.

It's like reading the Bob Smizik blogs

Did you see the smiley face after it? I'm saying it's sad when Vick looks better then Ben because he has an offensive coordinator that knows how to call a game plan around what he does best run and throw on the run.
