I'm guessing it's for faceoff purposes more than anything. Malkin can win one to save his ***.

Its no coincidence that his point total exploded and he started playing better hockey after his move back to center.

I can't believe we're screwing around with a proven super star. This is dumb.

Just when this team is starting to get on a roll, you change what is working? Why?

Malkin has 10 points in his past 6 games including 3 points in the last Pens game. This is indeed a pretty dumb move from what I can see. The only thing that makes somewhat some sort of sense is that perhaps Staal is closer to coming back and they want to prep Geno for this move?

Talbot has been wining more faceoffs than Geno and Geno's faceoff percentage stinks but Malkin's producing right so you'd think that would trump playing Therrien musical chairs

Honest to God, I don’t understand the hate on Staal. This team will be a WHOLE LOT BETTER when he returns.

POLITICIANS AND DIAPERS SHOULD BE CHANGED OFTEN AND FOR THE SAME REASON!

Its the hate of him being paid $4mill a year, and never having the potential of being a 2nd line center. He is way over paid for his skills, and he is keeping the team from having legit wingers for Malkin and/or Crosby. As far as Malkin playing Wing with Talbo centering. I can only hope that its for faceoff's only and that after that, Malkin does the rest of the duties for being a center.

How many legit wingers are you going to get for $4M?

^^^^^ This, people really don't understand what Staal brings to the team. people need to realize that we are not getting a 50 goal scoring winger for 4 mil a year. Kunitz makes nearly 4 mil a year. You want a superstar winger then we better start talking about moving a lot more than Staal's contract. Staal just turned 22 btw. He is younger than Tanger and 6 months older than Tangradi. It blows my mind sometimes when I hear people talk about Tangradi being a goal scoring savior and that Staal is a rip off at 4mil. Then again, people said the same thing when Tanger signed his contract.

And yet tangradi has the potential to be a number 1 winger? Dude, Staal would be a 2nd line center on 80% of NHL teams right now!

If he was soo overpaid the we wouldn't be able to trade him kinda like Kunitz. Naw I think he is getting fair market value. Besides Kunitz I'd say we have a few overpaid defenseman. It's not Staals fault and that would suck to lose Staal because Shero is losing money on these other guys.

I just dont understand the desire to move a player like Malkin from the position in which he is most CLEARLY comfortable and producing!

We'll be better. Definitely. Staal can add 45-50 points per season and notch around 20-25 goals. The problem is that he's been good for those numbers in a 3rd line role against 3rd lines of other teams and lesser defensive pairings. When he's been promoted to the 2nd line he's failed to produce. When Crosby has been injured for an extended amount of time and Malkin assumes the top line, Staal's becomes the 2nd and the production dips.

So, the new thing here is forcing Staal again onto the 2nd line but this time putting him in at center more because of his defensive ability not his offensive abiility when it's the offensive ability the 2nd line could use more of. when it's wingers that Malkin needs, not a Center.

We'll see, but we're skeptical or at least some are. I hope it works. I can't handle watching Geno having to try and make bread and wine with Arron Asham and Matt Cooke
