    Default Minor League signings

The Pirates signed 3 guys on minor league deals with Spring Training invites today.

RHP Fernando Nieve who has MLB time with the Mets and Astros. He turns 29 in July. http://www.baseball-reference.com/pl...ievefe01.shtml

C Dusty Brown who has a small amount of MLB time with the Red Sox. He was actually on their 40 man for most of the last 2 years. He turns 29 in June http://www.baseball-reference.com/pl...rowndu01.shtml

3B/1B Andy Marte who has MLB time with the Braves and Indians. Was once one of the top prospects in all of baseball, but has really struggled in the majors. He will be 27 for the whole season. http://www.baseball-reference.com/pl...artean01.shtml

Chances are they'll all suck, but that's the case with most guys on minor league deals.

Marte can play 1b and 3b fairly well.

Nieve can be a swing man. Prefer Karstens tho.

Dusty Brown can catch a pitched ball.

All can make our team, but I am most 'excited' about Marte.

I am lol'ing majorly right now. To think all the internet ink that was spilled over Marte on the old Trib board and we end up just signing him to a Minor League deal is just priceless.

I hope Marte makes the team if only because he often uses this as his walk up music:

Also check here for video of Marte pitching a 1-2-3 inning against the Yankees

Speaking of wasted ink, how about all of that wasted on, "Will we go after de La Rosa?"

Now, we are going to do the same on "Webb."

Marte was THE perfect example of the Bravos hype machine in its prime...you could always count on them to know who wasn't going to cut it at the ML level, make sure they had great PR on the guy to pump up his value, then dump him...rarely was anyone ever good AFTER they got rid of him....remember Steve Avery, Pete Smith, etc...
