Default Ward voted NFL's dirtiest player

From the Sports Illustrated poll. Voting breakdown:

    1. Hines Ward 11.6%
    2. Albert Haynesworth 6%
    2. Joey Porter 6%
    4. Roy Williams (S) 5.1%
    5. Kevin Mawae 4.6%

It's actually pretty impressive. I would assume he just takes all the votes from players in the secondary who aren't used to anyone hitting them.

Funny, he may be voted the "dirtiest," but I dont think there is a player or a coach in the league that wouldnt want Hines playing for their team!

Has anyone seen Ward take a cheap shot on anyone? All the shots I have seen him put on Rivers, Scott and Reed look text book to me. I don't see him going after knees, I don't see him coming in late, I don't see him jumping on piles late, I never see him in the middle of fights.

I take the who cares attitude but for Ward to be voted dirtiest player is a complete joke.

I couldnt agree more!!! He obviously breaks some unwritten rule that states a WR is not allowed to out-physical a defensive player or something....What-the-****-ever!!!!!!!!! Play on Hines!!!

Wards not dirty, he just shows no mercy. Honestly, if Ward was on another team doing the kind of hits he puts on people, I would say he is being overly aggressive. Heck, he's on our team and he is overly aggressive. He's not a cheap shot guy in my opinion. If you want to know what cheap shots are like, jump back to the 70's and watch some of those Raider games, it was criminal what those guys were doing.

You know what, I think this list looks more like a "who I hate the most" list than a dirty player list to me-so I take it as a compliment to Hines. What they are really saying is Hines = Tough.

Jim Rome stood up for Hines today on his radio show. Said Hines was not and NEVER has been a dirty player. Rome said Hines is violent and that Hines' block on Ed Reed is the greatest block he's ever seen. He ended saying Hines should be proud to be named 'Dirtiest' player and put that right up there with his two SB rings and SB mvp. Because all it is is sour grapes from guys who are afraid of Hines.

    I totally agree with Rome.

Pretty sad when big Defensive players have to vote a lil' old WR dirtiest player. What they can't take a hit from Hines?

A dirty player is somebody who takes cheap shots, who cuts out the knees of a QB, who steps on players when they get up, not a guy going above and beyond to make a block.
