    Tuesday with Tomlin

Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said Tuesday that tight end Heath Miller is likely out for Sunday's game against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Miller, of course, suffered a concussion against the Ravens.

But, Tomlin said that backup Matt Spaeth, who has missed the past two weeks with a concussion, has been cleared to play.

The Steelers signed punter Jeremy Kapinos to replace Daniel Sepulveda.

Aaron Smith had an MRI Monday and has been cleared to begin lifting weights.

I'm told he's targeting the Carolina or Cleveland games for a return.

Flozell Adams has what Tomlin deemed a "mild" high ankle sprain.

If he cannot play, Trai Essex would start in his place at right tackle.

I wouldn't bring Aaron back unless absolutely freakin' necessary. No way would he see the field against the Panthers. I would only use him against the Browns if it means securing the #1 or #2 seed. If none of that applies bring him back for the playoffs.

Absolutely!!! Also, as scary as it is to think how easily he could re-aggravate the injury in the weight room, he does need some time to build his strength back before sniffing the field. Good news though, either way! It might make sense to have him play against the Browns even if we are scratching for a WC spot, just to get him some PT to get back on pace.

Either way we need to be careful when and where we use him. Maybe bring him back slowly the last two games. Maybe 25% of the plays to get him some reps before going balls out in the playoffs.

Sounds sensible, LVG. A couple of partial games as work-out sessions (CLE and CAR) would be possibly the best way forward. Seems like forever since Aaron was injured.

Yup!!! I'm more concerned about his "tossing weights" in the weight room (in terms of re-aggravation) than anything that can happen on the field, at this point... LOW WEIGHT, HIGH REPS!!! Good news is that our training staff is AWSOME and will see to it that he is eased back into the groove...

I dont want to jump the gun, but it seems like Tomlin/FO made the right call by not IR'ing him... His return will be a tremendous morale boost for the Defense!

If he's going to come back and play this year at all he is going to have to test the arm before the playoffs to see if he has enough strength to use his hands and hold his ground in a live game. When he's ready to go he should definitely take some snaps in a live game situation to establish what he can and can't do physically.

Probably makes sense. At this point, he doesn't need a game to get back into it. Should be able to get enough reps just in practice.
