Race Car owner and Pittsburgh native Chip Ganassi will be honored prior to the start of Sunday’s Steelers-Bengals game Sunday at Heinz Field.

“Chip Ganassi has had one of the most outstanding years of anyone ever involved in sports from Western Pa.,” said Steelers President Art Rooney II. “We are excited to recognize Chip and the accomplishments of his racing teams prior to the Bengals game on Sunday at Heinz Field. It will be a great opportunity for Steelers fans to applaud the outstanding achievements of one of Pittsburgh’s own.”

In 2010 Ganassi’s race teams claimed a team-record 10 victories across all three major touring series in which they compete - the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, the IZOD IndyCar Series and the GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series.

The year was highlighted by his teams winning the first-ever Triple Crown of American Auto Racing with victories in the Daytona 500, the Indianapolis 500 and the Brickyard 400 – all in the same season.

In addition, Ganassi’s Indy car team and his GRAND-AM team both brought home championships in their respective series. In over 20 years as a race team owner his teams have won a combined 12 championships and amassed 134 wins.
