Default 4-3 at home? Why does this team do better on the road?

When I look at their record, I see an astounding 6-1 on the road, and a lackluster 4-3 at home this year.

I'd rather them play the Pats in Foxboro if it happens.

You know I didn't even think about the record. You could argue that the losses at home have come to really good teams (Balt, Pats, and Jets).

Its been a bizarre year for sure though.

I thought it was strange, but when I was looking over the home records over the past several seasons,I found the Steelers lost 3 home games in "06" (the Super Bow hangoverl season) and also in "05" the Super Bowl championship year.

I recall players saying in the past how there are far less distractions on the road. They don't have family to take care of, they don't have people they have to arrange tickets for, they don't have some of the media responsibilities before the game, etc etc. Basically on the road they just show up and play football.

Thats makes sense. Wonder what the overall home win/loss percentage is league wise?

I'm not going to tally all of them, but here's a quick rundown.

The Jets, Steelers, and Chicago all have only one loss on the road, and that's the best in the league. On the other hand, New England (7-0), Baltimore (6-1), Kansas City (6-0), and Atlanta (6-0) are the best at home, while they don't fair as well on the road. Baltimore is 4-3 on the road, while KC is a miserable 3-5 at home.

So, I think the best of all scenarios is that the Steelers get the 2nd, and then play KC at home, after they win their first road game. KC, like the Steelers needs to win out to secure their division, and they have both their games at home. Indy, is 5-2 at home, and 3-4 on the road.

Let's hope for a bye, KC, and a trip to NE.

I don't know the overall stats, but it really seems like the Steelers aren't getting the homefield advantage that was present at 3 Rivers.

That's been my feeling. Heinz Field since it's conception has never felt like that "home field advantage" that TRS had. Maybe it was that AFCCG loss against the Pats in the first Heinz Season that sort of tarnished it? I dunno, but we have seemed like a team especially under Ben that likes to play on the road

Actually you could argue that our wins at home and on the road have mostly come against sub .500 teams.

    I agree with this.

We missed a big chance at a loud home field advantage when they decided to not close the one end. It's a crud view of the City anyway and it'd be nice to have the extra 10-15K people there.

Plus too many people at the game don't get up. Now I'm not talking standing and going nuts the whole game, but there are times that's called for and too many ***** at you when you stand up to cheer on a big 3rd down for example.

I once got told to sit down at halftime at Beaver Stadium.
The old guy behind me wanted to see the band.

Another time a guy asked me to be more quiet at PNC.

I've sat next to some real idiots.

Luckily I was three rows in front of a really drunk chick on my last trip to Heinz Field.
I got some of her puke on my boots.
The guy right in front of her got it all down his back.

Pretty good incentive for you to avoid going to sporting events

It's was also dark, dirty and cold since it was just a concrete toilet bowl with astro turf and the need to colorize seats by sections

Heinz Field still feels too fancy for football

Still, no idea why the team itself doesn't perform well at Heinz Field or as well as a team should at home. I never think "we're playing at home, we should win this game"
