Default Browns Game is Obviously HUGE Now

I'm actually a little nervous about this game.

    - Browns beat the Steelers last year in Cleveland.
    - The Browns beat the Saints and Pats this year. They are not a bad team.
    - The Browns may or may not play like it's their own personal Super Bowl.

Just a little FYI, if the Steelers somehow manage to lose this game then we can all but kiss the #2 seed goodbye. That means no bye. The odds of winning the SB get a lot worse. It'd be a repeat of 2005, having to win 3 straight road games to get there.

    It could be interesting.

if we don't beat the Brownies we don't deserve to be the #2 seed with a first-round bye in the playoffs.

our mentality should be that the playoffs begin this Sunday in Cleveland.

While this isn't the typical "Win and you're in, lose you're out" scenario, the stakes are still HUGE. Win and you only have two games (at least one at home) and you're in the SB. Lose and you have most likely 3 road games. Pretty big difference.

JG: I'm actually not that nervous for the Stains even though I know that anything can happen and we can easily lose to them. I just feel like the Steelers will want this game real bad and play well......at least I hope they do. lol

...at the very least, you're right: it will be interesting.

Earlier this week, they were saying that Troy could possibly play in this game if needed. While this has become a very important game,if it were my call Troy would sit.

I second both of these points. Well said.

The Browns game was always going to be big (to my mind, anyway), even if we stood no shot at the play-offs. Winning the last game of the year, especially against divisional opposition, at least give you a little boost going forward.

The fact that, as events have transpired, it decides our play-off positioning and the Browns always seem to treat games against us as a Super Bowl (well, they've got to have some hope!) makes it a big game.

Treat it as a trap and, if the opportunity arises, crush. At this juncture, a win is incontrovertibly a necessity be that win ugly or huge. It was revealing to some degree, seeing Colt McCoy giving the game away in essence yesterday. I hope he's as generous to us on Sunday, although I suspect they may work on that a little with him in the week.

I wouldn't. I play Troy and see how the game unfolds. If we're playing good and winning..... THEN sit him down.

I say dress Troy, have him sit and see how the game goes. If we need him, bring him in if not then
    let him rest.

Cleveland game means more to Steelers

    By Pittsburgh Tribune-Review
    Sunday, December 26, 2010

The Steelers have plenty to play for next weekend.

With the Baltimore Ravens' 20-10 victory over the Cleveland Browns today, the Steelers (11-4) travel to Cleveland knowing they need to beat the Browns (5-10) to secure the AFC North division and the No. 2 seed in the AFC playoffs.

Even with a loss, the Steelers could win the division and a first-round bye if the Ravens (11-4) lose at home to the Cincinnati Bengals (4-11).

The Steelers could drop to the sixth seed and open the playoffs on the road with a loss to Cleveland and victories by the Ravens and New York Jets. The Jets play the Buffalo Bills (4-11).

The Bengals knocked San Diego out of the playoff picture today with their 34-20 victory over the Chargers. Cincinnati has won two consecutive games after starting the season 2-11.

The Ravens can finish the season no worse than the AFC's fifth seed.

The New England Patriots (13-2) wrapped up the top seed in the AFC and home-field advantage throughout the playoffs with their 34-3 win at Buffalo. The Kansas City Chiefs (10-5) won the AFC West when the Chargers lost.

The AFC South will be decided next weekend, too. Indianapolis (9-6) wins the division with a victory over the Tennessee Titans. Jacksonville (8-7) takes the division with a win over Oakland and a Colts loss.

I think the Steelers will win, sj, but anything is possible in this kind of game. If the Steelers don't come out guns a blazin' it could come down to the 4th quarter which I (along with everyone else on here) definitely do not want to see.

Another thing to keep in mind is the Steelers actually were in a really close game with the Browns earlier this year in Pittsburgh. The game was 7-3 well into the 3rd quarter of that game before the Steelers pulled away. I believe Ben hit a huge bomb to Wallace out of the Steelers own endzone to get the offense out of their funk in that one.
