    Big steal for PSU:

This morning it is reported, Anthony Zettel is going to make his announcement. The colleges he was down to: Michigan, Michigan State, Penn State, and Iowa. Essentially everyone was saying Michigan. He grew up a Michigan fan and has visited there over a dozen times. They were the leader throughout this whole process. Even if he didn’t choose Michigann, he was going to choose Michigan State. He visited there a bunch of times as well. ESPN Recruiting said he would choose from ONLY Michigan and Michigan State.

Well, Anthony Zettel pulled off a shocker. He chose Penn State. He planned to wait until January to decide, to see if Rich Rod would be retained by Michigan. But, after thinking about everything during his break, he knew Penn State was the place for him. He just had a better relationship and feel with PSU all around. He said this decision has nothing to do with Michigan being bad in any phase, but Penn State being better in all phases.

    4-Star Anthony Zettel – 6′4 260 DL

    * Endless Motor – Excellent motor. Gives his 100% every play. Going to be the guy who musters up enough to get that sack late in the 4th Quarter.
    * Build – Tall at 6′4. Strong, but is also lean enough to get bigger. Is one of those guys that can come in and play right away (at DE), but can also get bigger.
    * Versatility – Can play either DE or DT. Could also play OG if need be.
    * Pass Rusher – Is a very good pass rusher at DE. Will be strong enough to use the “Bull Rush” and his quickness off the ball is great.

    * Needs to get Bigger – That is, if Penn State wants him to play DT. Will need to gain 25 pounds before he sniffs playing time.

Honestly, that is really all that’s wrong with him. At least for the DL, which is where he will be playing. He is that good. I’m sure some scout could look at his film, and find more wrong with him, but the bottom line is…the kid is really good. For example, said he reminds them of Jared Allen (the All-Pro DE for the Vikings).

A lot of where he plays will depend upon Kyle Baublitz, who actually is a lot like Zettel. The talk right now is, Zettel will start his career at Strongside DE, and will eventually move to DT once big enough.

Don’t expect these shockers all the time. This is probably the biggest shock in years. From Michigan, Michigan fan his entire life, visited Michigan a bunch of times…chooses Penn State. That has to bring a smile to your face.

The 6-foot-5, 255-pound standout has been ranked as the No. 5 strongside defensive end by and the No. 11 guard by

PSU has added some nice pickups lately with this kid and with some kids when Wanny stepped down. Their class is much better now. It's almost full. It won't make any top 20 lists this year*, but don't be fooled, this is a good class of quality over quantity.

    * PSU is very young, they only have 10 scholarships available to give to the 2011 class and this is their 9th verbal.
