Default Polamalu hopes to play against Browns

    By Scott Brown, PITTSBURGH TRIBUNE-REVIEW
    Friday, December 31, 2010

Injured strong safety Troy Polamalu said he is "hoping to play" against the Browns. Today will go a long way toward determining whether the freshly minted team MVP returns to the playing field Sunday. Polamalu, who has missed the last two games because of a lower leg injury, is scheduled to practice today. The Steelers are holding out hope that the six-time Pro Bowler can play in a game they likely need to win to secure the No. 2 seed in the AFC playoffs. Polamalu said he struggled with the lower leg injury "for about a month" before the Steelers shut him down following a 23-7 win over the Bengals on Dec. 12. "It feels better than then," Polamalu said. "We just don't want any real setbacks, hopefully, before the playoffs."

He needs to sit this one out, too. At worst, I'd rather have him get one more week of rest........

I have to agree about siting it out and allowing the healing process to continue. Can't fault him for wanting to be in there but, bigger things are ahead for him.

Pittsburgh Steelers safety Troy Polamalu practiced Friday for the first time in three weeks, but it remains unclear if the All-Pro will return for Sunday's regular-season finale against the Cleveland Browns.

The Steelers' official Twitter feed reported Friday that Polamalu is listed as questionable for Week 17 and might be a game-time decision.

Polamalu missed the last two games with a right Achilles' tendon injury. The team's medical staff wants to see how Polamalu responds to Friday's practice before deciding whether or not he can play Sunday.

It's also possible that the Steelers will decide to rest Polamalu some more since they already have clinched a playoff berth.

Polamalu was selected this week by his teammates as the Steelers' most valuable player, the first time in his career he was chosen. He also was picked for his sixth Pro Bowl.

Running back Mewelde Moore (knee) and defensive end Aaron Smith (triceps) will sit out Sunday. Linebacker Jason Worilds (knee) is questionable.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
