Default Cubs Get Garza; We get Bubkis!

BN and his "best management team in baseball" just missed getting this starting pitcher.

    More help for the opposition.

(For those of you who don't know, "Bubkis" is Yiddish for nothing!)

do you think Garza came cheap to the Cubs? We couldn't get a decent deal out of Tampa Bay for Jason Bay, flip that around and just imagine the type of prospect/player package they'd want from us. i'm not sure what the package is but I've heard the Cubs sent Tampa Bay 6 players.

The Pirates simply are not at the point where we can start trading away prospects, not until the team shows some signs of improvement first BUT this is why the biggest goal is drafting, developing and building up your minor league system. So that you can get a Matt Garza and not take a hit in your system and have it look like Dave Littlefield is in control of it. We're close

Yeah we're on the cusp of contending. Trading away some of our young potential centerpieces for a pitcher like Garza would have been just brilliant.

Starting with the prospects, I love this trade for Tampa Bay. They got more for Garza than Kansas City did for Zack Greinke, although their package of players is, collectively, further away than what the Royals got.
Cubs fans will enjoy what Garza can offer, but this came at a huge cost.

Garza doesn't fit the Pirate profile.....he is second year arb eligible....which means he is the type of player they trade not acquire.

You mean like how Littlefield has helped build up the Cubs system?

Exactly. the Cubs traded away 3 Top 10 players including their Top prospect and their #4.

We only think about doing that when the piece we acquire is going to put us over the top in a legit World Series attempt/drive, not when you are still trying to get to and over .500 with a team filled with question marks and inexperienced youth

When did Littlefield become more than scout and become their GM?

You're nuts if you don't think the Cubs can contend in the NL Central.

Littlefield has never been just a scout for the Cubs....he's a SA to the GM.

He's in a smilar role that he had before he was with the Pirates. He's still not GM. The org. isn't running according to Littlefield's plan, Littlefield is doing whatever job he's told to do. some guys are better being told what to do than having the responsibility to lead
