    Default Deryk Engelland called up

    Engelland recalled

The Pens called up rugged dman Deryk Engelland. Their blue line has been soff and Engelland is tough-as-nails. He is a "light HW" but he will take on all comers. In 2007-2008 season Engelland fought 18 times for WBS and was undefeated.

Look for Engelland to throw down with Brad Staubitz tonight in the Shark tank.

So who doesn't play? I thought that the D had been playing pretty well.

It hard to say. I've read some rumors around the net suggesting that some Pens dmen have the flu and that Goligoski is worn down. Skoula, although he has played fairly well IMO, could be the guy to sit since he is the 6th dman. Letang has been lousy lately and if I'm not mistaken Byslsma benched him for a stretch in WBS out of frustration. That could happen again. We'll see. It could be Engelland in the pressbox for a few games and then back to WBS... but I hope not.

I'm betting that Goligoski may be a little banged up. They kept him out of practice yesterday even though Bylsma passed it off as Goligoski simply being "Just worn down, a little bit tired".

That'd really kill us. I mean my god our PP is terrible enough and he's one of our best Dmen. This road trip is less than I expected for sure.

SAN JOSE, Calif. -- The Penguins have recalled defenseman Deryk Engelland from their Wilkes-Barre/Scranton farm team, [HIGH-LIGHT]an indication that defenseman Alex Goligoski might not be available for the team's game tonight against the Sharks[/HIGH-LIGHT].

Goligoski was given the day off from practice yesterday.

Engelland, who was one of the final cuts in training camp, has two assists in 11 games with Wilkes-Barre. He has not played an NHL game.

Engelland is looking to make his National Hockey League debut. The six-year pro has worked his way up the ranks to the NHL following stints in Las Vegas, South Carolina and Reading of the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL), and Lowell, Hershey and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the AHL.

The Chetwynd, Alberta native played five seasons of junior hockey with Moose Jaw of the Western Hockey League

Im curious to see how Engelland does. I like the kid and he is tough. While the defense as played well for the most part, they have looked either worn down, sick and/or soft recently against all forechecks, doesnt matter the team we've played. I'd rather see the starters get their wind back than throw Engelland to the wolves especially against a team like the sharks (if he indeed does play)

The entire league is dinged up and tired. The compressed schedule is beating the league down. I suspect the Olympics will be a tad anti-climatic this year due to the spate of injuries and overwhelming exhaustion.

Here is Engelland's TKO of 6-5 235 Gorilla Kiel Mcleod. You gotta watch this clip with the sound on!

TBH I don't know who Boughner is but those two are a spitting image of each other.

I hope Gogo is ok, the kid has been dynamite.

I fear that it will indeed take a small miracle tonight to get to the six point mark I wanted the team to have coming off this road trip.

That is a pretty good point. the Pens played a lot of games it seemed like in October. Add in some flue like symptons and then this west coast trip and no doubt some fatigue is going to set in. for a while there the Pens had played more games than most other teams in the league.

A ****ty game against the Kings and a series of games where it looks like their energy isn't there, isn't going to worry me. Not right now with a lot of other variables. this is a good team, with a good system and scheme and a ****ty power play coach. They're going to rebound, get their feet back, get healthy again and dominate.

The injury lists around the league are insane right now.
