Default Timmons also out for Monday

Already highly likely to be without safety Ryan Clark for Monday night's game against Denver, the Steelers will also be missing two more starters on the defensive side of the ball.

Inside linebacker Lawrence Timmons and defensive end Travis Kirschke missed practice for the third consecutive day today and each said after the final tune up before Monday's game that they will not play against the Broncos.

"I am not going to be able to play," said Timmons, who is nursing an ankle injury he suffered two weeks ago against Minnesota.

Kirschke, who already is filling in for the injured Aaron Smith at left end, has a torn left calf muscle that hasn't responded well enough over the past two weeks for him to give it a go Monday.

"No, I am no going to be able to go," Kirschke said. "I am just going to have to be patient."

Timmons will be replaced by Keyaron Fox while veteran Nick Eason will start for Kirschke.

As for Clark, he would not comment on whether or not he will play against the Broncos, but all indications point toward him sitting out even though he was listed on the today's practice report as a full participant.

WTF is he ever healthy? We need to get some good games out of him so we can put him up for trade bait and then make Fox the starter.

Timmons was given his chance to prove himself for the first time this season...and he's injured again. I think we need to address the ILB position in the near future b/c right now we've got an injury prone guy in Timmons and a rather older guy in Farrior with an inexperienced guy in Fox behind them.

Also, Eason starting instead of Hood? I know we've talked about this at length...but that is just stupid. How can you not be good enough to get on the field as the THIRD string guy and instead have a guy who didn't even make the team out of camp starting instead of you? Mind boggling.

It's like the same crap with Veron Hanes. The guy couldn't even make the team sometimes but, after injury to so and so, they call him back and hand him the ball every chance they got.

I think we would have been better off with Foote at his point. Timmons shows a glimps, a very small glimps once in a GREAT while on why he was drafted but after that, he's average and I think he'll always be average.

That draft I wanted us to pick a different LB...and too bad we didn't. I wanted us to select Jon Beason...he's only gone on to be one of the top LBs in the NFL.

I think if the coaches step BACK and look at this team...they will come to the conclusion that in the upcoming offseason there needs to be a LOT of work done to the defense.

Not sure how you can blame injuries on the player. He was hurt, came back, and got hurt again....not his fault.

Circumstances happen, sure...wouldn't argue with you there.

Sometimes I think you can. Not being conditioned properly, bad technique, bad luck. Maybe not but I think there is something to the whole "injury prone" thing. Like Troy, he plays balls out, head first, he plays with little concern to his own health, it is no wonder he is injured a couple times a year.

He had a high ankle sprain and came back and it looked to me as if one of his own players fell into his other ankle.

There is no way you can blame conditioning on sprained ankles.

I wasn't blaming this injury on conditioning I am just saying.

I'm not talking about injury, just the bad luck schlep rock this dude has been from the start.

Well... He's definitely had the "bad luck".... I was never a fan of the pick that high in the draft because I didn't think he was worth it, and I wasn't a fan of his early-on... But he really DID show some "sparkle" that made me a believer... I hate the fact that he's hurt yet again... Let's just wait and see where this goes... As I hold my breath because I really don't want to use the "B" word on him.

Me thinks we're better off with a healthy Fox than a banged up Timmons!!! It sounded initially like the ankle injury/re-injury was supposed to heal over the bye week...I guess we should be concerned with his future. We all know how the high-ankle sprain ruins NFL careers
