    Default Gameday news & notes...

    2/6/2011 11:36:00 AM et
When asked what his message was to his team last evening, Steelers coach Mike Tomlin responded "Nothing much actually. Phil Collins runs the meeting."

Tomlin plays Collins' classic "In the Air Tonight" before big games and tells his players to visualize their goals while listening. This is a decidedly different approach than the Packers took, as they had motivational speaker Dr. Kevin Elko address them last evening. Between this and reports that Jon Bon Jovi could be buying a minority stake in the Falcons, it's been a banner day for rockers that haven't escaped the 1980s.

When considering him for their vacant head coaching job in 2007, the Dolphins reportedly passed on then Vikings assistant Mike Tomlin because he was "too hip-hop."

Instead, they hired Cam Cameron, who guided Miami to a 1-15 record during his one-year stint in South Florida. It's proof of how difficult it can be to identify new head coaching talent when you consider it was Tomlin, and not Cameron, that was considered the riskier hire then.

Ben Roethlisberger won't be prepared to talk about his legacy even if he wins his third Super Bowl this evening.

"It is kind of a tough thing to comment on because legacies are usually something that are asked (about) when you're done," he said. "I think you can always build toward your legacy and what you want it to be. Just trying to win football games and championships is what I'm trying to do now." If he does win tonight, he'll most likely have punched his ticket to the Hall of Fame, as every retired quarterback with at least three Super Bowl rings is enshrined in Canton. The only signal-caller in league history to win more than one title and not be in the Hall is long-time Raider Jim Plunkett.

Signed off the Steelers' practice squad on Saturday, G Dorian Brooks will likely be active for the Super Bowl.

He'll serve as an emergency third center. Trai Essex, who has never appeared at center in an NFL game, will be Doug Legursky's backup. All three of them will have to contend with Packers NT B.J. Raji, who's in for a night-long mismatch.

LeBeau would fit that bill. He would look good in Sonney Crockery garb.
