Default Ohlendorf And Pirates Going To an Arb Hearing On Wednesday

Ohlendorf arbitration goes to hearing, decision expected Wednesday
    Tuesday, February 08, 2011
    By Colin Dunlap, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

The Pirates and pitcher Ross Ohlendorf went to a salary arbitration hearing today in Arizona, the first hearing for a player from the club since 2004.

At the hearing before a three-person arbitration panel (which is expected to render a decision Wednesday) Ohlendorf asked to be paid $2,025,000 for this season while the Pirates argued that his salary should be $1,400,000.

The panel must decide on one of those two salaries.

The case went to an arbitration hearing after the Pirates and Ohlendorf could not agree to terms following a 2010 season in which Ohlendorf was arbitration-eligible after earning $439,000. He had a 1-11 record with a 4.07 ERA in 108 1/3 innings last season. Ohlendorf, 28, made two trips to the disabled list last season; in April for a back injury and then in August, for a major muscle strain in the back of his right shoulder. Neither injury required surgery and he told the Post-Gazette late last month at PirateFest that he feels fully healthy as he readies for spring training. Pitchers and catchers report to Bradenton on Sunday.

Ohlendorf's case was the first for a Pirates player to go to an arbitration hearing since Jack Wilson in 2004. In that case, Wilson was granted the amount he was seeking -- $1.85M -- while the Pirates requested he be paid $1.4M.

Hell, he hasn't done anything to earn the $1.4M. Show me you're worth that before asking for more.

POLITICIANS AND DIAPERS SHOULD BE CHANGED OFTEN AND FOR THE SAME REASON!

    Agreed.

He needs to stay healthy and he needs to pitch like he's done in the last 2-3 months of the past 2 seasons.

If he does this he could be a bargain at the price he's requesting
