I've always been a big believer in TOP.... And we won the category as well as the game.

Amazing how different this team looked when they came out in the 2nd half! Maybe they made some adjustments along with a good ear beating from Tomlin and co at halftime.

Yeah but not by any significant amount. If we are getting 200 yards on the ground that is a pretty good indicator that we won the game decisively otherwise Ben would be gunslinging and leaving Mendy on the bench. But the fact they had basically nothing on the ground seals the deal. We won this game.

Plus the INT's, not jsut the INT's but the fact he had only one prior to us. Tells me he wasn't liking what he saw in our defense. Orton got owned.

What was different was going to the no huddle and an taking DIL****** Arians out of the play calling.

Defensively I think we closed up the middle somewhat.

Mostly I think Denver ran out of juice from their early game hype and we exposed them for pretenders. Without our turnovers, we could have easily beaten then 42-3.

I am all for more Mendy. I love the fact we can pass with the best of them but if the Steelers get 120-150 every week from Mendenhall they won't lose again this season.

and that was a Denver run defense that was ranked in the Top 5 coming into this game so it wasn't like we piled up yards on a ****ty run defense like we have since Bruce Arians became a coach. We did it against a pretty solid run defense. Even against Minnesota which is a really good run defense, we didn't run as much but Mendenhall had a yard per carry average of 6.9. He had a YPC of 7.0 against Denver. Those aren't good numbers, those are GREAT numbers against better run defenses in the league.

2 things became evident in this game...

    1. the no huddle wore Denver's defense down. The same thing happened the week prior against Baltimore. They went no huddle and wore down Denver's defense. Once we wore them down and started handing the ball off, they were gassed.

    2. Somehow we started getting to Orton in the 2nd half. Orton was either getting good protection in the first half or was able to along with his line pick up our blitzes and defense easily in the first half. Maybe both. In the 2nd half, we might not have been sacking him, but were forcing him out of the pocket, forcing him to get rid of the ball before he wanted to and were getting Denver's offense off the field. The key to a good pass defense is and always will be pressure. that was the difference between Denver's first and 2nd half passing numbers.

I am not a great stats type kind of guy, but I do like TOP. If our O is controlling the ball with a lead, it seems to me that is where you want to be.Just so ****ing happy today that we exposed the Broncos for what they are, a second, perhaps even third tier team, we had an uncompromising defense that took it to them in thier own house. We gave them the black eye that only a true Championship caliber can afford to hand out. Even with our mistakes and whiffs we beat Bronco *** and began to cement our push for seven.

The only place that TOP fails is when you have an offense on the opposite side of the field that is an insane quick-strike O...like NE and Indy can be.
